Our sustainability statement
For more than 125 years, Cefetra BV and Cefetra Ltd. (hereafter Cefetra) have been trusted suppliers of agricultural raw materials to the animal nutrition, food ingredient and energy industries. Our mission is clear: to ensure that our products are increasingly sustainable, free from deforestation and land conversion, so that forests and ecosystems can continue to thrive.
Since 2000, global soybean production has grown by nearly 25%, driven by population growth and evolving diets. This rising demand has been met through both productivity gains and expansion of farmland. Yet intensified cultivation and frontier expansion can lead to serious social and environmental consequences, including deforestation, water contamination, soil erosion, as well as social conflicts. Responsible soy production is therefore essential. Stakeholders across the feed and food supply chains are demanding credible evidence of sustainable practices. Cefetra believes that all actors must align on clear principles, criteria, and transparent communication regarding methods, procedures and progress.
As a supply chain manager and sustainability frontrunner, Cefetra has long embraced the responsibility to facilitate this transformation. Since 2008, we have actively promoted sustainable soybean production in our key sourcing regions through farmer certification. To date, Cefetra has certified millions of metric tons of soybeans, primarily under its own CRS standard.
Beyond certification, Cefetra is committed to strengthening the sustainability of its physical supply chains. We partner exclusively with suppliers who share our dedication to balancing people, planet, and profit. Together, we have established supply chains of soy that are verifiably free from deforestation and land conversion. The soybean meal we receive from Brazil is supplied with the assurance that the soybeans are not sourced from farms within the Amazon Biome.
Cefetra is committed to eliminating deforestation and land conversion across all of its supply chains by 2030 globally, and by December 2025 in regions classified as high risk.
To achieve this, Cefetra will establish deforestation- and conversion-free soy supply chains in South America by January 2026. In addition, Cefetra is dedicated to building deforestation-free palm supply chains by January 2027, with a cut-off date of December 31, 2020. This commitment aligns with the requirements of the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), reinforcing Cefetra’s role as a frontrunner in sustainable sourcing.
